I was a missionary in my third area when the call came from our district leader telling us that President Hunter had now just passed away and Gordon B. Hinckley would be leading the church. He asked us to be mindful of Elder Hunter's family as well as Pres. Hinkley's that night as he was sure Pres. Hinckley and his wife Marjorie would be feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders. We shed a few tears, said our prayers and went to bed that night.
I wondered how long Pres. Hinckley would be leading the church. Pres. Hunter didn't make out a year and previously Pres. Benson and Pres. Kimball were fairly incapicated their last few years.

I am shocked and sobered by the news though I guess I shouldn't be. He was 97, but always strong, spry and extremely quick witted. I met him once when I was a missionary. I shook his hand as well as his wife's who had come along for the trip. They were lovely and gracious and kind and when he told us how much he loved and appreciated our hard work and sacrifice (this coming from a man who has devoted his entire life to the church,) I believed him.
He will be sorely missed. Though...I'm sure his beloved Marjorie is thrilled to have him with her now.
And like before, my thoughts are prayers are also with President Monson and his wife...who probably feel the weight of the world on their shoulders this cold evening.
