Yes, true believer, Naked Tuesday has returned after a much too long hiatus! I felt very, very rusty and not as sure of myself as I was drawing but it still felt good to just be there.
It's a great artists studio run by a painter in the area. He told me he has been painting in the Bay Area for the last 25 years. The group so far seems to be divided into two groups...old beatniks who talk about the good ol' days...and young beatniks who wish they were around in the good ol' days. Still though, the space was really nice, the group was fun and the jazz was spicy and fun.

As I said, I felt very shaky and rusty but I figure it's my own darn fault.

Obviously it's my first time drawing the lovely Daisy who likes to use props and bits of costume...which sort of weirded me out but it's also good for me to stretch creatively I guess. It's weird. If the model is nude, it's fine...but the instant there is any article of clothing it's uncomfortable. I think it's because THEN they are in a state of UNdress which makes me feel awkward. Could be just me though. Thoughts?

Anyway, click the small pic to go see the full images.

What do you think sirs?

I totally get where you're coming from with the "article of clothing" thing. Totally nude? Whatever. Add one stitch, and you're absolutely right - now it's a state of undress and it just feels weird. I ran into that when I was in Japan and went to an onsen. The instant I tried to cover anything with my teeny wee handcloth, or the instant anyone else did, it felt weird all of a sudden, whereas before it was just "we're taking baths, whatever"

Yes, that is it exactly! It's so strange but one stitch removes you from art to pseudo erotic...which is just odd and uncomfortable.

I think it's the consciousness of the thing. Adding that stitch makes you aware of the stitches that are missing.

I seem to recall having a discussion with one artist in which it was established that a nude model wearing two socks was actually fine, because then the model was just protecting her/himself from the cold floor; but a a model who was wearing one sock appeared either to be in the midst of undressing or recovering from being undressed, and thus had sexual overtones.

So even numbers of socks are chaste; odd numbers are scandalous.

Looks good! I like the two-tone conte drawing, the raised foot has some issues but you likely are well aware of that.

Thanks! Yes, the foot is weird. Hopefully thing will get better from week to week. :)

No doubt they will. It's a lovely drawing all the same.

If you can get past the (understandable) discomfort of the bits-o-costume scenario, you will learn a lot; I have always felt that fabric carries a lot of lessons about Seeing and Form that will be worth the effort on your part.

Fine work – you have already confessed to your Rustiness, but I will say that your Rusty is more splendid than my Oiled And Polished any day.

Any member of the tribe may find themselves self conscious about any member at any time. Although that tribal member has been naked for weeks at a time their self consciousness should not affect the artist.

While that may sound too Studiesque fer some, my opinion is an individuals self consciousness shouldn't affect one's own.
