Wulfie has a new quilt

It's a craptacular picture, taken with my phone...but it should give SOME idea of my current `I have no time for this but I'm going to do it anyway,' project. I put the top together a few weeks ago and then backburnered it for a variety of reasons. Anyway, today I enlisted la familia and we got the top tied. All that's left is the binding and here's how I do that:

Jett: Moooommmm....how do you do this again?
Jett's mom: (sighs in exasperated fashion,) Look, you have to tuck this part under...no...your stitches are too big...you don't want them to show... (goes on)

JETT BACKS SLOWLY AWAY AND PROCEEDS TO DO LAUNDRY AND VACUUM AND DO OTHER ODD JOBS AROUND THE HOUSE WHILE JETT'S MOM DOES THE BINDING OF THE QUILT.

____________

Wulfie is a big cat keep in mind but you'll note that he is dwarfed by the quilt. Heck, my younger brother can sprawl on it without any limbs going off. It's BIG. I'm awfully proud of it.

I will take a better picture of it, but check it out...I made NINE patches and leaf appliques and bunches of other neat stuff on it. Okay...a lot of my corners don't match for beans...but it's still a neat quilt.

It has been a good day. Got many errands run, got a new pass for the rec center...(this means SWIMMING Monday morning!) also got some boards cut for sketchbook covers. That will be next weekend. I still have much paper to fold. Actually, prepping the PAPER is the time consuming part!

Many projects to do...but when they are done...so will be my Christmas. Ho ho ho.

Great job on the quilt! I am very impressed. And it looks like the kitty approves.

I like your 9-patch squares. I guess that's the Mennonite traditionalist in me coming out. ;) Also, your maple leaf appliques are amazing. The leaf has a handmade, stylized look that's really appealing. I may have to "commission" my mom and grandmother to come up with an applique leaf quilt for me! -Although that may be pushing it since I already have them making me a giant lone star quilt. :)

Some of the blue patches and backgrounds for the leaf squares look almost batik. Did you dye some of them or was that the material? Ooo, that might be cool... batik dyed quilt patches. That would look so cool. Maybe I'll have to learn this quilting stuff. I haven't done batik since grade 13 art class but I loved it. Maybe I'll have to start a project.

The blue patches to which I think you are referring used to belong to a ginormous denim dress my mother and I picked up at a local thrift shop. Seriously, it was yards and yards...obviously handmade made for a grotesquely obese woman.
It really was neat fabric and we thought it would make spectatcular quilt blocks.
We hoped the lady who had that dress LOST all that weight instead of dying. Kind of creepy really to see a dress THAT big.

I'm rather proud of my leaf appliques. I designed the leaf myself going off the Canadian flag. Tried to make sure the "two faces" were visible in the negative. Think it worked rather well. :)

You should be proud, it looks great.

I'm not too familiar with applique. (Our traditional quilters never used that technique, although I'm somewhat familiar with it...) Do you put some batt under the applique or is it just applied directly to the quilt patch? I've always liked the look of applique, but since I don't quilt myself, I've felt too guilty to ask my "volunteers" to do all that work for me. One of these days I'm going to take on a quilt project just for the heck of it. I have the frames in my basement, I may as well. :)
