I was wondering if you would mind explaining to me what a "ward" is in the context that you use it? Is it a kind of social division within your church?

A ward is a group of members that live within a geographic region. Not unlike a congregation.
A group of individual members make up a WARD
A group of wards make up a STAKE
a group of stakes make up a REGION
a group of regions make up an AREA
all the AREAS constitute the entire church.

Hope this helps.:)

So when you say "The over 30 Ward" does that mean you attend church with just a group of people who are over 30 or are you referring to the "over 30" group within your ward?

I think that often times there will be several wards in a geographical location, all meeting at or operating out of the same "church," so to speak. (The Over 30 ward might be one. Sometimes there might be a college ward, too, right?)

But I'm not LDS, so I might be wrong. I guess, in a small way, you could look at this as ministry to certain church groups in a church.

That is correct. Wards will share the same building and have different start times in order to maximize use of the building.

There also "special interest" wards...for example college wards or singles ward. My ward is the over 31 years of age and not married ward...so yeah, there are all sorts of interesting folks who attend. As my friend put it...the ward of really tall girls and nerdy guys. ;)

There are often "special interest" wards...like college wards or regular singles wards (single people age 19 to 30) and wards like mine...singles aged from 31 to 35. We're a very odd mob. ;)

Actually I meant 31 to 45. I have no problems admitting my oddness. G'wan ask me.

"Hey, Jett. Are you odd?"
"3!"

Wow. A math geek!

I don't know if I'd think to answer a question with "three factorial."

All those people who are having trouble marrying off. ;)

Who wants to marry a tall girl, anway?

(My brother-in-law, that's who. He's short, and she's tall. There's about a 5 or 6 inch difference between the two.)
