There is a new full time student at the atelier and she was interesting to talk to. At one point in the evening Dierdre was trying to explai to the new girl how to approach gesture. I listened for a bit but finally had to chime in and wound up giving an impromptu little lecture on gestures; the theory behind them, what they are, how to break them down etc. When I finished I realized that a few students had been listening in and really thinking about what I said. It was kind of cool and a bit surreal because I have never felt like I was good enough to really offer anything in terms of approach and advice in life drawing to any other competent artist.
Anyway, we had Miles again and I think I am able to break him down better.
Miles: 5 minutes
I am nearing the end of this particular ghetto book and I think I am looking forward to drawing on paper that is isn't crumpled up paper bags. It's not a GREAT gesture, but it's not too bad.
Miles: 10 minutes
I like this one. It is rough and furious and for being a relaxed pose, I think the drawing has a lot of energy.
What do you think sirs?
