I don't usually do this, but...

An entry in my sister's journal got me a bit sniffy and teary eyed...especially after the emotional roller coaster of yesterday:

I thought about my sister who is not married and not a mother in that strict sense, but she is a very powerful force in my children's lives and that she does mother my kids and in my view, has earned the right to say things like, O, Go put your clothes on and then we can play. She's done her time. And my kids adore her.

I saw one of my friends from DC last night, 42 and not married. She said she moved to Utah from DC for a lot of reasons but a big one was to be close to her nieces and nephews.
We talked a bit about that and she reminded me of Sheri L Dew's comment on how she may not be a mother...and so her goal is to be the best aunt ever.

And then I started thinking about how grumpy I have been about staying in Utah and my time at the movie theater and now I am grateful for my job but I still want to get into features...

...and then I remembered that first year I didn't go off to art school...and it turned out to be the best thing that ever could have happened. For a lot of reasons but a BIG one I think was how much closer I got to my sister and that bond I instantly formed with Mighty S.

So, while I am NOT grateful I had to work at a movie theater for a year and a half, I AM grateful in the last 2 years just how much time I have been able to spend with my sister and her three kids. And the time with my youngest brother. And yes, my parents as well.

And their deck. I really, really, REALLY love their deck.
